What is Anime?

Anime (Japanese: アニメ) is hand-drawn and computer animation originating from Japan. Anime is a term derived from the English word animation. It’s a complex production that combines graphic art, characterization, and cinematography.

Why Anime?

I stumbled upon Anime fan videos to music I liked when I was about 11-years-old on Youtube. I thought the art was cute. I also was interested in romance a lot more as a pre-teen, so the couples in fan-made videos were pretty appealing.

I dove more deeply into Manga as a preteen/teen and progressed into anime as an adult because it was not easy in 2005 to find good dubbed Anime. Back then, streaming services did not exist and good dub did not really exist. So, what I did was watch parts of subbed videos in series like Episode 1 Part 1/4 - Episode 1 Part 4/4 on Youtube.

Now, I am more into Anime because it’s dubbed well, at least the names aren’t botched in translation and the females sound like adults instead of little girls, and it’s readily available. I can watch anime on Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu, or Netflix. Now that it’s so easy to do, you can bet I’ll be winding down after a long day with a cup of tea and an episode of Anime!
